Characters
We have read a number of stories now that have introduced a number of interesting characters. It is high time we spent some time analyzing those characters, because, after all, don't we see a lot of real life in them? Take Johnnie, for instance, from "Shoofly Pie." He, like Mattie is an interesting character. Let's use this form to analyze him a bit.

Together, let's do some reading about how to analyze characters and break them down a bit. It is the breaking them down that will make them more understandable to us. Please take notes as we read and discuss.

Terms that you should have noted from this reading include:
-traits
-infer
-round characters
-flat characters
-motivation
-dynamic characters
-static characters
-conflict

Assignment (or Contest, depending how you look at it): Create a graphic organizer like the one we used above to analyze a character from one of the other stories. You might also use some of the terms to describe your character. YOu may draw this graphic organizer freehand in your notebook, or if you want to get all fancy, you may venture to the writing center and use Inspiration to make a chart like the one above. Or, fancier yet, use another software title to take it a step further. (The fanciest [and most complete] will win the prize of being published on this website as an example for all others to behold!). Please have it completed by next class.
